How to Find the Right Therapist for You

Charles E. Winton, Jr.
LPC, EMDR-II, MMFT

Choosing a therapist can feel overwhelming. The good news: you don't need the “perfect” therapist — you need one you feel safe with and who has experience with what you're facing.
Questions to ask
- What experience do you have with my concern?
- What approaches do you use, and what does a session look like?
- Do you offer telehealth, evening hours or a sliding scale?
- How will we know if therapy is working?
Trust your gut
After the first session or two, notice how you feel. Heard? Respected? A little hopeful? Those are good signs. If it isn't a fit, it's okay to keep looking.
You don't have to do this alone
Talk with a WellSprings counselor in person or by telehealth.
